The Clinical Epidemiology Research Center (CERC) at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System located in West Haven, is a collaboration between VA Cooperative Studies Program, VA Connecticut Healthcare System, and the Yale University School of Medicine. CERC seeks to improve the health and health care of US Veterans by conducting and supporting rigorous studies involving topics in patient-oriented investigation and corresponding research methods.

The CERC was created to broaden the capacity of Veterans Affairs research, and has three specific aims:

  1. Serve as a center-of-excellence for epidemiological research within the Veterans Health Administration, conducting rigorous studies that are relevant to the health and health care of veterans.

  2. Conduct methodological projects that improve the standards of research design and data analysis used in patient-oriented research.

  3. Create an educational environment in support of collaborative epidemiological research, including training in methods of research design, biostatistics, and data processing.

About UsAbout Us

The Clinical Epidemiology Research Center (CERC) is integrated with the pre-existing VA Cooperative Studies Program Coordinating Center (CSPCC), a unit that has conducted multicenter randomized trials for more than three decades. By providing a research “home” for patient-oriented investigators in multiple specialties, the CERC environment includes approximately 10 principal investigators and their corresponding research teams, as well as support staff. The CERC moved into its current space in 2004, occupying 10,000 square feet of a two-story 20,000 square feet research building dedicated to patient-oriented investigation. The Center has 25 offices, with conference rooms, archive storage rooms, and a room for photocopying and document assembly. Of note, the CERC is linked to the adjacent CSPCC building via an interior connector, and the CSPCC facility itself has 10,000 square feet of space.
